Sweden settle for third place

Sweden ended UEFA European Under-19 Championship Elite round Group 7 with three points after closing their campaign with victory against Cyprus.

Group hosts Spain - who finished first - and Germany had both defeated each of these opponents on the opening two Matchdays to end their respective hopes of qualifying for the finals in Poland. Sweden had the better goal difference and only needed a draw to avoid finishing last, but had the better of the play and Brwa Nouri put them ahead on 22 minutes with Jonas Lantto adding another just before the half-hour. Rawez Lawan struck the third in the 60th minute to put the game beyond Cyprus, who did at least end a campaign that included qualifying round wins against Norway and Malta with a goal in injury time from Alexandros Dimitriou.
