Article body
İlhan Parlak's stunning hat-trick for Turkey against Portugal not only earned his side a 4-4 draw and kept them in the 2006 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, it also brought personal reward as he shot to the summit of the top scorers' table.
Five-goal hauls
The Turkish striker scored five times in the Elite round and has already equalled that tally in Poland after adding to the two goals he scored against Spain in Tuesday's opening match in Group B. That match also saw Spain's Juan Mata register three times, although he was unable to add to that on Thursday as Manchester United FC defender Gerard Piqué took some of the goalscoring burden with two strikes against Scotland.
Hat-trick heros
He now lies alongside six others on two goals behind three players who have notched three already this tournament. Aside from Mata, Belgium's Roland Lamah added another goal to the two he scored in the first match with a consolation against a Poland team that were indebted to the brilliance of Dawid Janczyk whose hat-trick – the third of the embryonic tournament – reignited the hosts' hopes.
