The 2008 semi-finalists Hungary face an uphill struggle to qualify for this year's UEFA European Under-19 Championship final tournament after two Georg Gravogl goals gave Austria a 3-2 victory on the first day of action in Elite round Group 1.
Impressive fightback
Hungary actually made the brighter start at the FK Tavankut Stadium and took the lead 14 minutes in through András Simon, one of the survivors of last year's squad. Austria, however, were level in the 35th minute through Gravogl, and further goals before half-time from Aleksandar Dragović (44) and Gravogl again in added time put Andreas Heraf's new-look team in command. Although Patrik Tischler pulled a goal back eleven minutes into the second period, Austria held firm and will continue their bid for a place in the finals in Ukraine against mini-tournament hosts Serbia on Thursday, when Finland are Hungary's opponents.
