France got their UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying campaign back on track with Maxime Partouche scoring twice in a 4-1 win against Latvia on the second day of action in Group 5.
Partouche at the double
Jean Gallice's side had opened their campaign with an unexpected defeat against Norway on Monday and it looked as if more frustration could be in store in Mondeville as half-time approached with the scoresheet still blank. Clevid Dikamona finally broke the deadlock four minutes before the interval, however, and two goals from Paris Saint-Germain FC midfielder Partouche early in the second half put the home team in complete command. Although Kaspars Dubra pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, Magaye Gueye gave France the final word with a late fourth goal although his side are still third in the standings and have to beat Romania in their final fixture on Saturday to have any chance of progressing.
