France will play in July's UEFA European Under-19 Championship final tournament in Ukraine after defeating Romania, who started the day as leaders of Elite round Group 5.
Captain's goal
Third at the start of play, Jean Gallice's charges needed to win in Saint-Lo to have any chance of qualifying and they were a goal up after 25 minutes when Paris Saint-Germain FC defender Tripy Makonda struck. With no reaction forthcoming from Adrian Vasai's players, captain Yann M'Vila added a second just past the hour before Damien Le Tallec confirmed victory two minutes from time. A goalless draw for Norway, who were second ahead of their game against Latvia and unbeaten, means France qualify despite losing their opening match of the section to the Scandinavian side.
