Eden Hazard confirmed his reputation as Belgium's star player, scoring the hosts' only goal as they kicked off UEFA European Under-19 Championship Elite round Group 4 with a win against the Republic of Ireland.
Fine finish
Belgium took the initiative in Tongeren and, after 25 minutes, KAA Gent's Sebastien Phiri saw his effort thud against the post. However 14 minutes later it was 1-0, LOSC Lille Métropole attacking midfielder Hazard driving in from the edge of the area after a cross from the left had been headed through to him. The Irish stepped up their game after the break, but for all of their possession it was Belgium who looked the more dangerous on the break, substitute Kevin Kis twice going close when well placed.
