Turkey bowed out of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship despite concluding their elite round Group 4 campaign with a 2-1 defeat of Norway.
Both teams needed to win to have any hope of overhauling Spain at the top of the section and it was Turkey who were the first to threaten, Muhammed Demir and Emre Çolak going close in the first five minutes, the latter's 25-metre free-kick coming back off the crossbar. Another Emre set piece did break the deadlock, however, his right-wing free-kick eluding everyone and finding the net in the 16th minute.
The lead proved short-lived, Stian Ringstad capitalising on a defensive mistake to level five minutes later. Neither side was subsequently able to seize the initiative, but it was Turkey who took the points when Volkan Dikmen forced the ball in four minutes past the hour following a goalmouth scramble. The victory was in vain, however, as Spain's 4-0 defeat of Azerbaijan booked their place in this summer's final tournament, Turkey finishing in second position and Norway third.
