Scotland keep winning team

Archie Gemmill and Tommy Wilson will remain in charge of the Scotland side that reached last month's European U19 final for next summer's FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Archie Gemmill and Tommy Wilson will remain in charge of the Scotland side that reached the final of last month's UEFA European Under-19 Championship in anticipation of next summer's FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.

Final run
The run to the final in Poland, where Scotland lost 2-1 to Spain, ensured a third appearance in the global youth competition, but Wilson, head of coaching and education at the Scottish Football Assocation (SFA) as well as being coach of the U19s, is leaving the ruling body to join Rangers FC next week. However, he has agreed to lead Scotland, alongside manager Gemmill, at the World Cup which takes place from 30 June-22 July 2007. Spain, the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland and Portugal will also be representing Europe.

Rangers give permission
An SFA spokesman said: "It is important to have continuity with a winning team, and we are delighted Rangers have granted permission for Tommy to take time from his new post with the club to work with this special group of players." A new coaching staff for Scotland's 2007 UEFA European U19 Championship squad, who begin qualifying in October, will be appointed and overseen by SFA national youth teams coach Archie Knox.
