Italy will stage the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship after being selected as final tournament hosts by the UEFA Executive Committee at its meeting in Nyon, Switzerland.
The 2019 finals will contain 12 teams, the second tournament to do so after next June's event in Poland. The qualifying group stage draw will take place on 26 January 2017, with the 11 finalists that travel to join hosts Italy to be determined by 20 November 2018. The eventual final tournament, likely to be played in June 2019, will act as Europe's qualifier for the 2020 Olympic men's football tournament in Japan.
Italy, the only side to win the trophy five times, have not hosted the U21 EURO since it became a one-venue final tournament in 1994.
