Former UEFA Women's Cup winners Umeå IK and FCR 2001 Duisburg will be among the 28 teams involved in the 2010/11 UEFA Women's Champions League qualifying round draw at 12.00CET on Wednesday.
While the champions of the 23 top-ranked nations, including holders 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, enter in the round of 32, the remaining 28 sides will compete between 5 and 10 August in one-venue mini-tournaments for the right to reach the knockout phase. They include the runners-up from the eight top-ranked associations: Germany, Sweden, France, Russia, England, Denmark, Italy and Iceland. Duisburg and Umeå are prominent among them having reached last season's inaugural UEFA Women's Champions League semi-finals.
The teams have been split into four seeding categories based on their coefficients and all seven groups will contain one club from each section. Seven sides have also been designated as mini-tournament hosts and will be drawn from Pot 1, and will not meet any team from their own seeding category. The remaining teams will then be drawn from four further pots depending on their seeding.
All seven group winners plus the two runners-up with the best record against the teams first and third in the pool will join the teams given byes to the knockout phase in the draw for the rounds of 32 and 16 on 19 August. The competition will continue on a two-legged basis until the one-off final held in London on Thursday 26 May, two days before the men's UEFA Champions League decider at Wembley.
