Group 6: Impressive debut for Hjørring

Fortuna Hjørring reached the UEFA Women's Cup quarter-finals at their first attempt.

Fortuna Hjørring of Denmark reached the UEFA Women's Cup quarter-finals at their first attempt after an impressive performance in topping Group 6.

Good start for Hjørring
Hjørring and Belarussian group hosts FC Bobruichanka emerged as the two contenters for the one place in the last eight, and both picked up wins on the opening day. Five different players were on target for Hjørring as they saw off Moldova's FC Codru Anenii Noi 5-0.

Close encounter
Things were closer for Bobruichanka, as they came from behind to beat Iceland's Breidablik 3-2. Margret Olafsdottir put Breidablik ahead on eleven minutes but Sviatlana Astashova soon equalised. Hildur Sævarsdóttir restored Breidablik’s lead six minutes from the break, only for Volha Nahornaya to level before half-time. Volha Aniskoutsava’s goal seven minutes into the second period eventually proved decisive.

Comfortable wins
The second set of games saw the leading pair set up a last-day decider after securing comfortable wins. Hjørring did not give Breidablik a chance as the Danish team cruised to a 9-0 victory, and Bobruichanka triumphed 6-0 against Codru.

Hosts pipped
Bobruichanka went into their final fixture needing a win to progress, but Hjørring maintained their form to win 3-0, their 17th group goal without reply, and will now take on Norwegian team Trondheims-Ørn SK over two legs in the quarter-finals. Breidablik claimed third place with a 2-0 victory against Codru.
