Picking a squad for the UEFA Women's EURO 2025 final on Fantasy, presented by AXA, is unlike any other matchday in the tournament. Although 15 players are still available, only 11 can play – and, another difference from the first five rounds of fixtures, there is only one opportunity to select a captain.
The Scout's final squad for the tournament is an even split between Spain and England, the former supplying eight players to the holders' seven. Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas lead the way for the world champions, while bankers such as Lucy Bronze combine with a wildcard selection in Michelle Agyemang for England.
Goalkeepers
For once, the selection of the goalkeepers is straightforward – Hannah Hampton and Cata Coll are both set to start the final, so both make the squad. Selecting which to play and which to leave on the bench is a trickier prospect, although having kept clean sheets in both the quarter-final – her first appearance of the tournament – and semi-final, the Spaniard has the edge, her 13 Fantasy points from those two matches allowing her to move within five of Hampton's tournament total of 18.
Defenders
The five defenders picked are among the six top scorers in their position on Fantasy, with all scoring particularly highly on ball recoveries – a reliable source of points with clean sheets a precious commodity. Irene Paredes leads the way overall with 29 Fantasy points, three ahead of her Spain team-mate Ona Batlle, with Olga missing out despite her total of 27 points due to her lower ball recovery total overall, plus a desire to have more attacking players from Spain.
That means the remaining three defenders are all from England. Lucy Bronze is the holders' top scorer in defence with 25 points, three ahead of both Leah Williamson and Alex Greenwood. In terms of balls recovered, Greenwood has made the most of any defender still involved with 35 – worth ten Fantasy points – with Williamson on 33 and Bronze on 29. With Spain likely to dominate possession in Basel, all will have plenty of opportunity to add to those tallies.
Midfielders
Unlike in goal and defence, midfield is dominated by Spain, who provide four of the five players. Alexia Putellas remains the top Fantasy scorer overall on 49 points but has only six from her first two knockout appearances; in contrast, Aitana Bonmatí was restricted to just four points in the group stage but has picked up 20 from the last two games. Patri Guijarro is second to Putellas overall on 33 points and is yet to score less than four in a Women's EURO 2025 match.
Mariona Caldentey has 28 points for the tournament, scoring once, providing two assists and winning a penalty, and looks the likeliest of Spain's remaining midfielders to deliver another attacking return in the final. Georgia Stanway is the sole England representative thanks to her two goals in the group stage that helped her to 26 points overall.
Forwards
The selection up front comprises of two certain starters and a wildcard option. Alessia Russo has found the net only once in Switzerland – albeit with three assists – but should again lead the line for England, while Clàudia Pina has two goals and two assists and should spearhead Spain's attack.
With Spain therefore at their full available capacity of eight players, the remaining forward slot is open for an England player. Semi-final match winner Chloe Kelly has a strong case, as do Lauren Hemp and – fitness permitting – Lauren James but goals in both the quarter and semi-finals mean Michelle Agyemang is selected; the 19-year-old is likely to only appear off the bench, but has shown her capacity to have an impact in even a few minutes of action.
