Article body
Spain recovered from an opening 2-2 draw with the Republic of Ireland to win Group A2 and maintain their tradition of qualifying for every edition of the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship.
Fine start
With Denmark having beaten 4-1 in the opening game of the mini-tournament, the Spanairds knew they had to get a result against the Irish in Lucena. However, it was Ireland who were on their way to three points as the first half ticked down on 20 April, Casey O'Driscoll and Edel Malone putting Susan Ronan's side two goals to the good.
Two for Adriana
Spain hit back just before the interval through Irune Murua and Natalia Pablos Sanchón made it 2-2 ten minutes after the restart to ensure the game would end with spoils shared. The Irish then beat Slovakia 3-1 in their second outing, O'Driscoll scoring twice, to establish control of the section on goals scored from Spain, who defeated Denmark 2-1 - Adriana scoring twice
Denmark miss out
The Danes knew they had to beat the Irish in their final fixture to retain any hope of securing a place in Finland. They did just that, triumphing 3-1 thanks to an early goal from Tanja Meyer Christensen and further first-half goals from ChristinaØyangen Ørnto. The win left Denmark with six points and a goal difference of plus four - not enough to secure one of the two best runners-up slots available.
Fine finish
Spain won the group, ending their campaign in fitting fashion with a 9-0 rout of Slovakia, their third defeat in as many games.
