Germany stroll into last four

Germany claimed top spot in Group A and set up a semi-final with Russia with a superb 4-0 victory against Belgium.

Van Houtven saves
From the first minute Germany were in the ascendancy, going close three times in the first five minutes through captain Nadine Kessler. Fatmire Bajramaj, Juliane Maier and Isabel Kerschowski also had chances early on yet somehow the scores remained deadlocked as Sofie Van Houtven made a number of fine saves.

Engel header
Shortly before half-time Germany finally went in front when Friederike Engel headed in Josephine Schlanke's cross from close range. The second half started like the first one ended as Engel broke away down the right and crossed for Kessler to control and place the ball beyond Van Houtven.

Fine interplay
It was three on the hour mark, when Anna Blässe and Christin Angel combined with some superb football and Van Houtven could not keep Blässe's shot out from 20 metres. Sara Yuceil and Nathalie Junius went close for the Belgians, before Juliane Höfler rounded off the victory with a fine goal in the final minute of the game.
