Deadly Danilova inspires Russia

Netherlands 1-5 Russia Holders Russia secured their place in the semi-finals thanks to a striking masterclass from Elena Danilova.

Holders Russia secured their place in the semi-finals of the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship thanks to a striking masterclass from Elena Danilova, whose four goals - a finals record - saw her team come from behind to defeat the Netherlands, who exit the competition after three defeats.

Vocal Dutch
The large and vocal Dutch support that has been a feature of the tournament was soon in full voice as Amber van der Heijde opened the scoring after six minutes. She picked up possession just outside the penalty area and rifled an unstoppable left-footed drive into the top right-hand corner.

Danilova on song
The lead proved short-lived with Danilova, last year's top scorer, moving to the head of this year's rankings with an opportunistic strike from close range in the 15th minute after the Dutch defence had failed to clear after Elena Terekhova's strong run into the area. The same combination unlocked the Dutch defence again after 28 minutes when Terekhova's perfect through pass received the finish it deserved from Danilova, beating two defenders and the goalkeeper to the ball before slotting in her fifth goal of the competition.

Russian goal rush
Russia extended their lead six minutes into the second half with Danilova clinching her hat-trick with a virtual carbon copy; again finishing coolly after an excellent assist from Terekhova. Danilova's fourth - a sublime solo strike - came after 65 minutes as she beat two defenders before rounding the keeper to score from an acute angle.

Germany meeting
Terekhova got the goal her efforts deserved six minutes from time as she fired home a fine shot after her powerful run opened up the Dutch defence. Russia advance to play Germany in the semi-finals for the third successive year and they will be hoping to repeat their 2005 triumph.
