Job done
Having defeated Sweden 4-1 on Tuesday, Germany then saw the Scandinavian nation held 0-0 by Scotland in Budelsdorf on Thursday prior to their kick-off against Hungary. Thus, they knew that three points would seal first place, and in front of 3,000 fans Germany were four up by half-time, triumphing 6-0 in the end to become the first team to join hosts Iceland in the finals draw on 23 May.
'Very happy'
Meinert said: "We are very happy we managed to qualify after just two games. We knew after the goalless draw between Sweden and Scotland that we could book our ticket with a win, and that was the attitude we went into the game with. We kept a high tempo and played an attractive game. So did the Hungarians, who never gave up." Scotland, in second place and four points behind Germany, meet the home side on Sunday hoping a victory will prove sufficient to take them to the finals as best runners-up across the six groups.
