Marley wants winning feeling to last

Mo Marley was in buoyant mood after England beat France but admitted it would count for nothing if they failed to prevail in their "massive game" against Spain.

England manager Mo Marley was buoyant after her side secured a 3-1 victory over France to move top of Group B by a point, but she admitted it would count for nothing if they failed to negotiate their "massive game" against Spain on Monday. A draw would be enough to send England into the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship semi-finals; France, whose coach Stéphane Pilard was left to rue missed chances, will join them by beating Poland in their third match.

Mo Marley, England manager
I'm delighted with the response after the first game. We underperformed and the players know that but the pleasing thing from my point of view is that they took responsibility today. We have highlighted the French as one of the favourites to win the tournament so it's pleasing not only to get the result we needed but to do it against a team of their quality. We showed what we can do but it is only one game and we still have a massive game to play come Monday. We're in a good position. We underperformed in the first game, we've raised the standard in the second and if we're going to qualify then we have to raise it a lot more.

Stéphane Pilard, France coach
Obviously in football when you don't score then you can't win. We had three or four good opportunities but didn't take them - but that's football. England are very good, very organised with a good defence and we didn't find a way to break them down. After we made it 2-1 we felt we could force a draw but we couldn't. We had a few chances before, a few chances after but couldn't score. We have to win on Monday to qualify. Poland will be a difficult team but we are not eliminated yet and we hope to be in the semi-final. They were special conditions for football today with the wind and the rain but it was the same for both teams.
