England defender Sophie Bradley admitted to feeling "a bit nervous" towards the end of Friday's 3-1 win over France but with victory achieved, she has already switched her thoughts to the Group B decider against Spain.
Opening goal
Leeds United LFC centre-back Bradley set Mo Marley's team on course for three points in Akranes when she scrambled the ball in from close range midway through the first half – almost a replica of Fern Whelan's last-gasp equaliser against Poland on the opening day. "It came from a good corner, a good cross in and was won at the back post – I was just there to put it in," said the 17-year-old. "It was a repeat of the goal we scored against Poland when Tash [Natasha Dowie] headed it across goal and we're there just to put it in."
Late pressure
England increased their advantage on the hour when Dowie added a second but France substitute Marie-Laure Delie reduced the deficit to prompt a grandstand finish. Les Bleuettes piled forward in search of an equaliser as Bradley returned to more familiar territory. "We defended really well. Don't get me wrong, for the last ten minutes everything was really fast and we were defending, just trying to hold on to the score and I thought we did it really well," said the former Nottingham Forest LFC youngster. "We got a bit nervous but we were there for each other: if I didn't win the ball, support from behind would win it for me.
'Delighted'
"I'm delighted. I thought it was a really good team performance, we put our best in and got the score that we wanted." That became a 3-1 victory when Ellen White secured the spoils with a goal on the counterattack in the 95th minute, leaving England in pole position going into Monday's Group B matches. A draw against Spain in Reykjavik would be enough to gain entry to the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship semi-finals and Bradley has already reset her focus, saying: "We're all looking ahead to Monday, starting over again."
