It's a result that we needed. We knew it was going to be difficult as it's a derby, playing against Scotland, we know they've improved as much as we've improved. We knew it was going to be tough and I think that showed in the first half but in the second half we did a little bit better, got some momentum and later on we started to play a little bit. We got what we expected today and fortunately we got the result. We're back on track.

It was a huge improvement on the first game, in terms of the quality we had on the ball. The players realised at half-time that the quality of passing could have been a bit better but the players are inexperienced and picked it up in the second half. We knew we had to win today to stay in the competition and if we want to get to the semi-final we're going to have to beat Sweden. That's our philosophy though – we go into every game to try and win regardless of who the opposition is.

Ritchie Wilson, Scotland manager
I'm disappointed: disappointed in losing the game, disappointed in knowing that that is the tournament for us. But I'm proud of the players, of their work ethic and a very good first-half performance. One of the things we always speak about with the Scottish team is the team spirit and their attitude. They worked really hard to get back into the game after a slow start; they responded well, got themselves a goal and continued that right for the remainder of the first half.

I was disappointed to concede early in the game, but we fought back well and created a number of chances for ourselves but again [I am]disappointed to lose a goal [three] minutes into injury time in the first half. In football you can do all the preparations in the world but there always is that bit of luck involved in the game. But as well, one thing we take away from all this, is giving away goals at these critical times through lapses of concentration.
