Tuneful rendition
After a tough week on the pitch, the eight teams were afforded some downtime as they gathered at the picturesque lakeside setting of Pagode de Chanteloup in the Loire Valley where they mingled with each other, took part in traditional games and enjoyed a hearty barbecue. After dinner, the Azzurrine players showed no nerves in stepping up first for the karaoke, delivering a surprisingly tuneful rendition of an Italian classic thanks to their multi-talented music student Pamela Gueli. "Pamela is the number one," said a proud Italy coach Corrado Corradini of the striker who had scored a superb goal against France 24 hours earlier.
Wholehearted Scotland
Gueli was always going to be a tough act to follow and England – evidently possessing one less music student in their ranks than the Italians – had trouble maintaining the lofty standards with their enthusiastic but slightly disjointed rendition of Mr Brightside by The Killers. Norway, Sweden, Spain, France and Germany all followed with energetic efforts but when it came down to outright noise nobody could better Scotland's wholehearted performance, which brought the house down – almost literally.
