Weber keeps eyes on WU19 prize

They may have booked their semi-final spot with a 7-0 victory against Scotland, but Germany's Francesca Weber insists that there is still room for improvement.

More to come
"It was nice to score seven goals, but the result wasn't a fair reflection off the game – we all know it wasn't our best performance," the 19-year-old told uefa.com. "We are happy to be through to the last four, but we have to stay grounded as we still have to grow as a team. Our squad developed a lot and it's good to have qualified but we want to reach the final now." Should they do so it would be Germany's eighth appearance in the final stage in eleven seasons, a reflection of their dominance at this level.

'Tight unit'
That has continued in the Loire Valley, with Maren Meinert's team through to the semi-finals as Group B winners, though Weber concedes it has not all been easy. "You have to take more responsibility compared to at club level and you can't afford to make mistakes," she admitted. "You have to invest a lot. The level is quite good, the speed of the game is high and sides seem especially motivated playing against us. We have developed into a tight unit though as everybody knows we can only win as a team. Our team spirit has developed with each success, but also during the bad games when we have really had to come together."

Focus
They will need to be cohesive on Wednesday against a Norway side that brought a premature end to the tournament's French hosts campaign to seal their progress. "We know the team quite well as we played a friendly there two weeks ago and won 3-2," said defensive midfielder Weber, who is also eligible to play for England through her mother. "It wasn't our best game but we learnt a lot. They have a similar style to Sweden, playing long balls. They are strong in the tackle, strong in the air, and I can't see any major weaknesses. But they are beatable." Before then there is some downtime, an opportunity to rest and soak up the sun – but not for Weber: "You can't forget why you came here; there is always a basic level of concentration, focus and commitment, and we should not lose track."
