Netherlands team guide

The Netherlands return for their fifth tilt at the final tournament determined to revisit the heights of 2010 when, under Hesterine de Reus, they reached the semi-finals before bowing out unbeaten after a penalty shoot-out defeat by England.

Many of the team – current senior international mainstays Siri Worm and Lieke Martens among them – returned for the finals 12 months later but, with Johan van Heertum now at the helm, they failed to live up to expectations built up by a qualifying campaign that brought 33 goals. They managed 14 this time around, steadily improving throughout.

Largely indebted to late goals in the qualifying round, four points from their first two elite round games left them needing to beat Austria on the last day to seal progress. Two goals apiece from Jeslynn Kuijpers and 16-year-old Jill Roord wrapped up a 4-1 win as coach André Koolhof took them back to the final stages at his first attempt.

Hailing from the north-east of the Netherlands, Koolhof has been employed by the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) since 2004 after a career playing and coaching at amateur level.

A regional technical director, he also coached boys' and girls' teams from U10s to U15s before becoming women's U17 assistant coach for 2012/13. He replaced Aart Korenhoff at the U19 helm in August 2013 and led them to the finals at his first attempt.
