Louwaars leads Dutch charge

Austria 0-1 Netherlands Gilanne Louwaars scored just after the half-hour mark as the Netherlands maintained their 100 per cent start to qualifying.

Gilanne Louwaars scored just after the half-hour mark as the Netherlands maintained a 100 per cent start to their FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying campaign with a 1-0 victory against Austria in Kapfenberg.

Austrian threat
Vera Pauw's side defeated highly-regarded France 1-0 in their Group 5 opener last month, and repeated that scoreline at the Franz Fekete stadium with a resolute defensive performance. Experienced midfield player Louwaars scored the only goal of the game on 33 minutes and, although Austria held their own and created several good opportunities, the visitors held on to claim a 1-0 victory which takes them to the top of the section on six points.

France fixture
Austria are third after failing to add to their victory against Hungary in September, and they will hope to get their campaign back on track when they face France on Saturday. The Netherlands must wait until 26 November for their next outing when they line up against the team that look like providing their biggest challenge in Group 5; England.
