Holders Germany's preparations for the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup had a major boost as they saw off fellow contenders Denmark in a Magdeburg friendly today.

The finals begin in China on 10 September and the coach intends to cut her current 26-player squad to 21 by the middle of next month. Germany have another fixture against the Czech Republic on Thursday before matches against Switzerland and Norway on 22 and 30 August. They then depart for Shanghai on 3 September.

'Tough decision'
The squad have been training at three mini-camps in Cologne, Kaiserau and Bitburg, with practices lasting for up to five hours on some days. "Cutting these five players will be a tough decision," said Neid. "Nobody has disappointed so far, every mini-camp has been very rewarding. I guess they all want to come with us to the World Cup, so every girl is working very hard." Germany start their campaign in China on 10 September in a game with Argentina while two days later Denmark open against the hosts.
