Porto's veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas has overtaken Paolo Maldini at the top of the all-time UEFA club competition appearances leaderboard.
175: Iker Casillas (ESP, Real Madrid, Porto)
Casillas made 157 UEFA appearances for Real Madrid before leaving for Porto in 2015, bringing to an end a 16-year, trophy-strewn spell. Another 18 outings for the Portuguese club have now taken the 35-year-old – whose tally of 167 Spain caps is a European record shared with Gianluigi Buffon – top of this list.
174: Paolo Maldini (ITA, AC Milan)
The right-footed left-back and central defender played until he was 41, becoming as important a figure in Milan's history as his father Cesare Maldini – winner of four league titles and the 1962/63 European Champion Clubs' Cup. Paolo lifted that trophy five times, plus seven Italian championships.
173: Xavi Hernández (ESP, Barcelona)
The former Barcelona midfielder picked up more trophies – 28 – than any other player in Spanish history, also winning the UEFA Champions League four times.
163: Clarence Seedorf (NED, Ajax, Real Madrid, Internazionale Milano, AC Milan)
The Dutchman remains the only player to have won the UEFA Champions League with three different clubs: Ajax (1995), Madrid (1998) and Milan (2003 and 2007). An all-round midfielder, he was famously never once sent off in his career.
161: Raúl González (ESP, Real Madrid, Schalke)
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have outstripped his one-time record haul of 77 UEFA club competition goals, yet Raúl's three UEFA Champions League titles and seven Spanish crowns underline the one-time No7's status as one of the greatest strikers in European history.
