Trondheims-Ørn edge first leg

SK Trondheims-Ørn beat HJK Helsinki 2-1 in their UEFA Women's Cup quarter-final first leg.

The UEFA Women's Cup quarter-final between SK Trondheims-Ørn and HJK Helsinki is finely balanced after the Norwegian side won Saturday's first leg 2-1 at the Abrahallen stadium.

Valkonen own goal
The Finnish outfit, who surprisingly put paid to Italian champions Torres Terra Sarda's hopes of making it into the knockout stages in the previous qualifying round, saw hopes of another giant-killing act suffer a blow when Sanna Valkonen put through her own net seven minutes in.

Advantage doubled
HJK's task looked further forlorn when Brit Sandaune made it 2-0 after 24 minutes, but they showed tremendous courage and no little skill to fight their way back into the tie in the second half. Timo Lounio's side halved the deficit five minutes after the break when Eveliina Sarapää struck what could be a vital away goal.

Return in Helsinki
If HJK fail to score in the return leg on 30 March then Trondheims-Ørn will progress to a likely semi-final with Scandinavian neighbours Umeå IK after they trounced TNK Ryazan 4-1 in the their first leg.
