• Becoming DBU president in 2002, he has served as a member of the UEFA National Teams Committee, vice-chairman of the UEFA Referees Committee and as a member of the FIFA Associations Committee, joining the UEFA Executive Committee in 2009. In March 2014, he stepped down as DBU president after 12 years of outstanding achievement.

• A keen reader, Hansen believes football is a tool to bring people together, saying: "Football is a universal language which can be spoken by every one of us. The language is the fun, enjoyment and team spirit that derive from the game. It is not just a game around the world: football means hope for many and pleasure for a good many more."
