Looking ahead to the new season, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin has identified "teamwork" and "unity off the field" as key takeaways from European football's remarkable completion of four elite competitions in four different countries in four weeks.

"Teamwork is the secret to every success on the football pitch," said Čeferin, speaking at the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League group stage draws in Geneva on Thursday.

"Together, we have learnt an important lesson for the future of our beautiful game: if we all work together, if we are prepared to make sacrifices and show solidarity, football can overcome any adversary."

And as the European game embarks on a new season, Čeferin acknowledged the efforts made by all parties to ensure a conclusion to last term's competitions.

"In an extraordinary season, the European football community showed the power of unity off the field of play. Players and clubs rallied to help their local communities cope with national lockdowns. Leagues, national associations and governments worked hand in hand with UEFA to deliver four pan-European competitions in four different countries – an unprecedented feat for any sports organisation in the world."
