The former president of the Danish Football Association, Poul Hyldgaard, has passed away at the age of 88.
Mr Hyldgaard served at the association’s helm from 1991 to 2002, and was a DBU board member from 1977. He was DBU president at the time of Denmark’s greatest footballing triumph, when the national team – called up at the last minute to replace Yugoslavia – won the UEFA EURO title in Sweden in 1992.
He was a member of the FIFA Executive Committee from 1984 to 1996, and served on UEFA committees, as chairman of the Women’s Football Committee (1992-96) and member of the Development and Assistance Committee (1994-96).
“Mr Hyldgaard has been a cornerstone in the development of Danish football,” said current DBU president Jesper Møller.
