Guðni Bergsson has been re-elected as president of the Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ).

The former Iceland international, who played 80 times for his country, was confirmed in office for a further two years at the association’s assembly, having first been elected in February 2017.

“I want to wholeheartedly thank everyone for their support,“ said the former Valur, Tottenham Hotspur and Bolton defender. “We want to improve what has been working, and make the operation stronger, for the betterment of our clubs and for football as a whole.”

Iceland has enjoyed success at national team level in recent years, reaching the last eight when they made their UEFA EURO debut at the 2016 finals in France, and the team also reached last summer’s FIFA World Cup finals in Russia. “We will continue our good work,” Bergsson added.

“We want to strengthen our football in all areas,” he concluded. “We must have the courage to have big ideas and execute them.”
