Primera División strugglers Levante UD have dismissed coach Abel Resino after claiming just a point from their openeing seven league games this season.

New contract
The 47-year-old former Club Atlético de Madrid goalkeeper was dismissed following a board meeting prompted by a 3-0 defeat at Real Zaragoza at the weekend. Resino joined Levante last January following the dismissal of Juan Ramón López Caro and managed to save the club from relegation. He promptly earned a new contract but things have not gone well in the first seven games of this season, with Levante firmly rooted to the foot of the table. "I want to wish the club the very best because I've grown very fond of them," said Resino. "I have told the players that a good result will change everything because football is about a state of mind. I'm sure we will meet again because, like in football, the ball is always moving." Resino's assistant José Gómez has been placed in temporary charge of the team while the club seek a permanent replacement.
