Matthias Voigt has been elected as the new president of the Liechtenstein Football Association (LFV), taking over from Reinhard Walser who steps down after nine years in the role.

Voigt had been vice-president since 2011. From 2008 until this year he was also vice-president of FC Triesenberg and with that office came membership of the Circle of Presidents of football clubs in Liechtenstein.

A self-employed entrepreneur and passionate amateur footballer, he has worked in financial services and corporate consulting.

Voigt is especially keen on improving the grassroots aspect of the game in the Alpine principality. "There are seven clubs in our country which require youth teams and also have a need to nurture them," he said. "They have a sociopolitical responsibility.

"We must make sure football remains attractive," he added, "and ensure that boys and girls keep coming to play football. We also have to create the infrastructure that will help us develop talents further and get them to an elite level."
