Hibernians on target
Hamrun Spartans FC quickly fell behind against Hibernians at the National stadium in Ta'Qali as youngster Antoine Zahra's low shot beat goalkeeper Daniel Dangaky, and Adrian Mifsud secured all three points after converting a 27th-minute penalty for his 18th goal of the season after he was brought down by David Galea.
Birkirkara's challenge falters
Hibernians' victory was made all the more sweet by a draw between championship pool contenders Birkirkara FC and Valletta FC which left them three points clear at the top of the table. Birkirkara were heading for a 1-0 win with only seconds left when veteran Kris Laferla struck to rescue a point for Valletta. William Camenzuli opened the scoring from the penalty spot for Birkirkara after 56 minutes but Valletta threw everything forward in the dying seconds and gained their reward through Laferla.
