Getafe getting used to high life

Emotional meeting
Saturday's 2-1 home triumph against Valencia CF was an important psychological lift for Getafe, leaving them a point ahead of RC Celta de Vigo. David Villa's diving header on 28 minutes looked to have set Valencia on their way until a loose ball bobbed up for ex-Real Madrid CF striker Riki to volley in an equaliser on half-time.

Last-ditch winners
Villa thought he had hit the winner on 88 minutes only for the goal to be disallowed. In a lightning counter, Riki set up Pablo Redondo to blast in a far-post volley to seal victory against the club where he began his career. For the second time in a week, Getafe left it until the eleventh hour to steal a win – only this time the victim was their former coach Quique Sánchez Flores.

Best figures
Schuster, who replaced Sánchez Flores this summer, knows better than to get carried away, although that will be hard with talk of possible Spain call-ups for Riki and strike partner Daniel Güiza. Schuster will be well aware though that until now the limit of the Madrid-based club's achievements in the Primera División is one week spent in 12th position towards the end of last season, the first top-flight campaign.

Realistic goals
"You have to be realistic," Schuster explained, conscious that he took Levante UD to third position at the same time last season only to see them nosedive down to the lower depths of the table and, after his dismissal, suffer relegation. "We know that there is no chance of us staying in the number one position right the way through the season.

Points wanted
"Our intention is quite clear, to gain enough points to make sure that we can still be in the top division next season and anything that comes after that at this stage is a bonus," he added. "At any point we could be forced to come back down to earth but until that happens, we must try and accumulate as many points as possible."
