Gert Verheyen scored four goals as Club Brugge KV moved into a two-point lead at the top of the Eerste Klasse on Sunday after they beat R. Charleroi SC 4-0.
Opening goal
The 31-year-old striker helped Brugge take full advantage of KAA Gent's defeat against KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen on Saturday, scoring his first goal after only five minutes. More slack defending in the 22nd minute allowed Rune Lange to steal the ball and set up the Belgium international for his second.
Simple finish
On the hour mark, Josip Simic played Lange into space and his lay-off gave Verheyen the simplest of finishes for his hat-trick. Four minutes later, an error from Charleroi defender Daniel Calvo freed Nastja Ceh, who crossed into the area, where Verheyen finished at his second attempt.
Sonck hat-trick
A hat-trick from KRC Genk striker Wesley Sonck helped his side to a 5-2 victory over RWD Molenbeek and left him as the league's leading scorer with 15 goals. Sonck sent Genk into the interval with a two-goal lead after netting in the sixth and 40th minutes. Justice Wamfor headed a third 10 minutes after the restart before Sonck completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute. Jonathon Butera pulled one back for the home side three minutes later.
Penalty save
When Molenbeek won a penalty in the 83rd minute, a late fightback looked possible but Butera's spot kick was saved by Jan Moons. Kevin Vanbeuren restored the four-goal cushion in the 87th minute for Genk, who are third in the table, before Bernard Allou blasted home a second for Molenbeek.
