Coach Alexander Tarkhanov will be leaving FC Krylya Sovetov Samara after his contract was not renewed.

FC Krylya Sovetov Samara have announced that coach Alexander Tarkhanov will be leaving the club after Wednesday's cup match against FC Gazovik-Gazprom Izhevsk.

Respectable rise
Tarkhanov took charge of the Russian Premier League club in 1999 and after narrowly avoiding relegation in his first full season, guided them to successive fifth-placed finishes in 2001 and 2002. However, after Krylya Sovetov finished eighth this season, Tarkhanov will not be offered a new contract.

'Important contribution'
"The board has decided not to prolong Tarkhanov's contract," said Krylya Sovetov president German Tkachenko. "We will sum up the team's performance this season at a later date, but now I would like to thank Alexander Tarkhanov for the important contribution he has made to our club.

'I wish him success'
"Under his guidance the club has become noticeable not only in the Volga region but throughout Russia. We are grateful to him and we hope that he is also satisfied with the work he has done with the team. I hope that they will now produce a good performance on 5 November as a way of thanking him and I hope that our supporters will salute him. I personally wish him every success in his future work."
