Charlton Athletic FC have signed Mali defender Djimi Traoré and Senegal midfielder Amdy Faye for a combined fee of €6m, with the two players agreeing three-year contracts with the English Premiership club. "We're delighted to have made two quality signings and they will both improve our first-team squad," said Charlton manager Iain Dowie.
Champions League winner
The 26-year-old Traoré arrives from Liverpool FC, where he made 88 league appearances and collected a UEFA Champions League winner's medal in May 2005. He joined the Merseysiders from Stade Lavallois MFC in 1998 and had a loan spell at RC Lens during the 2001/02 campaign. The 29-year-old Faye, meanwhile, has spent three seasons in England, playing 47 games for Portsmouth FC and then 31 matches for Newcastle United FC. Like Traoré, however, he is a product of French football, having made his breakthrough with AJ Auxerre.
