UEFA week in Copenhagen

A hectic and successful week for UEFA and the European football family in Copenhagen, Denmark, has come to a close. The XXXIII Ordinary UEFA Congress and UEFA Executive Committee meeting were the highlights on the agenda. uefa.com brings you a summary of the most important moments.

Eleven key values
At the Copenhagen Congress, UEFA President Michel Platini presented eleven key values – appropriately, the same number as a football team – that should serve as the basis for UEFA's future activities and dialogue, on behalf of European football, with the political, economic, social and sporting world. The values give priority to football and cover areas such as respect, good governance and autonomy, grassroots football and solidarity, sporting integrity and betting, financial fair play, the European sports model and sport's specificity. Progress, results and challenges
In his address to the UEFA Congress, Mr Platini took the opportunity to highlight the progress that is continuing for the well-being of the European game – the results achieved since his election in 2007, and the challenges facing UEFA and European football in areas such as illegal betting, financial fair play and dialogue with the European political institutions and governments. President/EXCO report approved
The success of UEFA EURO 2008™; strengthening links between members of the European football family; key changes to major European competitions; and football's place and role in society are among the topics examined in the report of the UEFA President and Executive Committee for the 2007/08 period. The report was approved at the Congress in Copenhagen. Click here for more details.

Election results
Elections were on the agenda at Wednesday's Congress, with delegates voting for nine seats on the UEFA Executive Committee for the 2009-2013 period, with eight positions available for four-year terms and one position for a two-year term. In addition, four European members of the FIFA Executive Committee were (re-)elected for the 2009-2013 period. Click here for more details.

Future activities
Financial fair play and the fight against illegal betting and match-fixing are two topics that will be occupying a key role in UEFA's activities in the coming period, as was explained after the Copenhagen Congress by Mr Platini and UEFA General Secretary David Taylor. Click here for more details.

HatTrick moving forward
The ambitious UEFA HatTrick programme in favour of the 53 member associations continues to gather pace. Association presidents and general secretaries heard that the second phase of the programme, which runs until 2012, has more funds available to national associations and is involved in a greater sphere of activity than ever before. EXCO approves club financial control panel
UEFA's Executive Committee approved the creation of a Club Financial Control Panel in what is a first concrete measure to improve financial fair play in the UEFA club competitions. Click here for this and other Executive Committee decisions.

Loyal servants honoured
Tuesday night's dinner to mark the Congress in Copenhagen gave UEFA the opportunity to honour a number of people who have given loyal and devoted service to football, by welcoming several officials into the UEFA Amicale des Anciens circle and awarding other personalities the UEFA Order of Merit.
