Former German international Timo Konietzka, who scored the first goal in the Bundesliga and led FC Zürich to a European Champion Clubs' Cup semi-final, has died at the age of 73.

Former German international Timo Konietzka has died at the age of 73.

Konietzka scored the first goal in the new Bundesliga on 24 August 1963 for Borussia Dortmund against SV Werder Bremen. The striker won German titles with Dortmund (1964) and TSV 1860 München (1966) and registered an impressive 72 goals in his 100 Bundesliga games. He scored three times in his nine appearances for West Germany.

As a coach he won four Swiss championships and guided FC Zürich into the European Champion Clubs' Cup semi-final in 1977. Konietzka moved to Switzerland 44 years ago to run a hotel on Lake Lucerne with his wife.
