Serie A strugglers Calcio Catania have replaced coach Rolando Maran with Luigi De Canio in the wake of Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Cagliari Calcio.
The 50-year-old Maran was appointed by the Sicilian club ahead of the 2012/13 season and led the side to a club record 56 Serie A points and eighth place in the final standings. This season, however, the Etnei have won just one of their opening eight fixtures, gaining just five points. "We give him our most heartfelt thanks for the work done and wish him the best for his ongoing career," read a club statement.
De Canio, 56, first tasted life in Serie A at the helm of Udinese Calcio in 1999/2000 and has since managed the likes of SSC Napoli and Genoa CFC as well as English outfit Queens Park Rangers FC, among others. US Sassuolo Calcio will provide the new coach with his first test on 27 October.
