Europe's fastest ever league hat-tricks

Southampton FC winger Sadio Mané scored the fastest ever hat-trick in the Premier League on Saturday against Aston Villa FC, timed at two minutes 56 seconds. It is the fastest in Europe's top divisions this season. We asked our network of correspondents if they could beat that and here is what they said (even if precise timings are lacking in some cases).

Greece: Giorgos Dedes hit three in under three minutes for Panionios GSS in March 1965 in a 7-1 league victory over Panegialios FC.

Italy: Italy forward Valentino Mazzola scored three goals in two minutes for Torino FC in their 6-0 Serie A win against Vicenza Calcio in April 1947.

FYR Macedonia: Filip Ivanovski also managed three goals in three minutes in FK Vardar's 5-1 win against FK Napredok in 2011/12.

Netherlands: Back in March 1959, Jan Seelen scored three for Ajax in a 9-2 victory at SVV Scheveningen which was credited as two minutes and is still regarded as the Dutch top-flight record.

Norway: Lillestrøm SK's Erik Karlsen secured the matchball with a salvo that lasted two minutes and 30 seconds in a league match against Mjøndalen IF in May 1977. He was done by the seventh minute.

Scotland: Ross County FC's Tommy Ross reputedly managed 90 seconds against Nairn County FC in 1964, all the more remarkable because the opposition goalkeeper was the timekeeper.

Republic of Ireland: Jimmy O'Connor holds the record in Ireland with three in two minutes, 13 seconds for Shelbourne FC away to Bohemian FC in November 1967. The feat is marked with a plaque at Tolka Park.

Sweden: The top-flight record is a rounded three minutes set by Knut Kroon and Tobie Svensson over 80 years ago. Magnus Arvidsson took 89 seconds for IFK Hässleholm against Landskrona BoIS in a second-tier match in 1995. "There was hardly time to kick off between the goals!" said Arvidsson as he helped his side come from behind to win 5-3 and avoid relegation.
