Italian football is in mourning after the death of coach Emiliano Mondonico at the age of 71 following a long illness.
Mondonico was born on 9 March 1947 in Rivolta d'Adda and began his football career at Cremonese in 1966, joining Torino two years later, and making his Serie A debut with the Granata. The winger spent two seasons in Turin, before signing for Monza. He also had a spell at Atalanta and then concluded his playing career back at Cremonese.
His coaching career followed a similar path, starting with a spell at Cremonese, who he led to promotion to Serie A before repeating the trick with Atalanta, and then leading La Dea to the semi-finals of the 1987/88 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. He then took Torino to the final of the 1991/92 UEFA Cup, where they lost to Ajax, but got his hands on a trophy the following season as his side won the 1992/93 Coppa Italia.
More recently, he coached Napoli, Cosenza, Fiorentina, AlbinoLeffe and Cremonese again, making his last Serie A appearance with Novara in 2012.
