European and Luxembourg football are mourning the passing of Norbert Konter, the former president of the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF), at the age of 90.

Born on 14 December 1927 in the town of Grevenmacher, Mr Konter served at the helm of Luxembourg’s football from 1986 to 1998, when he was made honorary president – a title he held until his passing. He was a key figure in the development of the game in the Grand Duchy.

He represented CS Grevenmacher as a goalkeeper and coach, and was club president from 1968 to 1986.

Norbert Konter was also mayor of Grevenmacher from 1988 to 1999, and a member of the Luxembourg parliament from 1989 to 1999.

The FLF said in a statement that football in Luxembourg had lost one of its “great servants”.

On behalf of European football, UEFA extends its deepest sympathy to Mr Konter’s family and friends at this sad time.
