Prolific Pršo takes plaudits

AS Monaco FC's Dado Pršo has been voted Croatian player of 2003 by an panel of former internationals.

AS Monaco FC forward Dado Pršo has been voted the Croatian player of 2003.

Unanimous selection
The striker was nominated by eleven former Croatian internationals, including Ivan Cvjetkovic, Ardian Kozniku, Nikola Jerkan and Zlatko Skoric. The poll, organised by Croatian newspaper Vecernji, was notable for the fact that Pršo was the unanimous choice of all eleven members of the voting panel.

Crucial strikes
Pršo scored four goals in Monaco's remarkable 8-3 victory against RC Deportivo La Coruña in the UEFA Champions League, and also scored both goals in Croatia's 2-1 aggregate play-off victory against neighbours Slovenia, a result that took Otto Baric's side to the finals of UEFA EURO 2004™.

'Excellent season'
"I am delighted," said Pršo, who beat FC Bayern München defender Robert Kovac into second place, with FC Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa third. "It was an excellent season for me. Before last season, no one had heard of me in Croatia but now I am the player of the year. The goal I scored in Ljubljana was the favourite goal of my career."
