Andre Bergdølmo's late penalty secured AFC Ajax a 1-1 draw against title rivals Feyenoord.

Andre Bergdølmo's late penalty secured Eredivisie leaders AFC Ajax a 1-1 draw against title rivals Feyenoord on Sunday.

Leonardo opener
Bergdølmo converted a spot-kick five minutes from time to cancel out Leonardo's 79th-minute strike for the visitors. The Brazilian forward scored from 12 metres following a swift counter-attack as Feyenoord threatened to steal all three points.

Machlas wins penalty
But Nikos Machlas, who had headed against the crossbar in the first half, won a penalty after a challenge by Tomasz Rzasa and Bergdølmo dispatched the resulting spot-kick for Ajax's 5,000th first-class goal.

Feyenoord up to second
The result left Ajax five points ahead of the Rotterdam club, who moved up to second place, level on points with PSV Eindhoven. Feyenoord and PSV, who did not have a fixture over the weekend, have both played one game less than the leaders.

Stalemate for strugglers
Elsewhere, the bottom club, SC Fortuna Sittard, played out a goalless draw with fellow relegation candidates Sparta Rotterdam, while third-bottom FC Groningen were held 1-1 at home by RKC Waalwijk. Dejan Govedarica equalised 13 minutes from time for the visitors after Ignacio Tuhuteru had opened the scoring.

Twente win
FC Twente, who last week defeated Feyenoord, continued their impressive run with a 2-0 home win over NEC Nijmegen, Jack de Gier and Jeroen Heubach the scorers.
