CSKA Moscow got their campaign off to a flying start as they won 4-0 against FC Torpedo-ZIL Moscow.

CSKA Moscow got their 2002 league campaign off to a flying start as they trounced city rivals FC Torpedo-ZIL Moscow 4-0.

Ten men against nine
The match exploded into life in the 24th minute when a clash between Sergei Semak and Alexander Kuratin led to both men being sent off and, on the stroke of half-time, Torpedo-ZIL lost another man as Alexei Musatov was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Kirichenko hat-trick
From there it was always an uphill task for the visitors and they found themselves behind after 53 minutes when Dmitri Kirichenko burst clear to fire home. Seven minutes later the hosts doubled their advantage when Rolan Gusev beat two defenders and then slotted the ball past Andrei Novosadov. Kirichenko capitalised on a defensive error to chip CSKA's third on 73 minutes and four minutes later he struck again for his hat-trick.

Anzhi win at home
FC Anzhi Makhachkala ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against FC Zenit St. Petersburg thanks to goals from Budun Budunov and Vladislav Prudius while FC Torpedo Moscow beat FC Sokol Saratov 1-0 through an Igor Semshev strike.

Rotor hold Dinamo
There was nothing to separate SC Rotor Volgograd and Dinamo Moscow as both teams spurned a string of chances in a 0-0 draw. Rotor started the brighter and should have taken the lead after 27 minutes when Roman Pavluchenko glanced a header over the bar but seven minutes later Dinamo's Ognien Koroman miscued with only the goalkeeper to beat.
