Sunderland AFC have made talented 20-year-old Matthew Piper their fifth signing of the summer.

Sunderland AFC have made their fifth signing of the summer by taking Matthew Piper from relegated Leicester City FC.

Five-year stay
The 20-year-old winger has signed a five-year contract after the two clubs agreed a €5.5m deal. Piper, who only made his Premiership debut last season, has been courted by many of England's top clubs. He joins Phil Babb, Sean Thornton, Thomas Myhre and Stephen Wright as summer signings at the Stadium of Light.

'Great pace'
"I have been monitoring the player since last season," Sunderland manager Peter Reid told the club's official website. "He has great pace to go past players and get crosses in."

'Exciting move'
Piper, who could make his debut in Saturday's league game against Everton FC, said: "I am very happy to be joining Sunderland. I came on as a sub for Leicester last season at the Stadium of Light when Sunderland won the match and the atmosphere was tremendous. It's an exciting move for me."
