Belgian First Division runners-up R. Standard de Liège have appointed Dutchman Johan Boskamp as coach, succeeding Dominique D'Onofrio.

Stoke spell
Boskamp most recently worked in England with Stoke City FC and has also had spells with six Belgian sides, including RSC Anderlecht, KAA Gent and KRC Genk. The 57-year-old has agreed a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months to replace D'Onofrio, who decided to leave Standard at the end of the season.

Belgian familiarity
Boskamp even had a spell with Belgium's K. Lierse SK - whom he later coached - during his playing days and was voted the country's Player of the Year in 1975. Standard will compete in the third qualifying round of the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League.
