Real Zaragoza have signed Argentinian international Pablo Aimar from Valencia CF on a four-year contract.

'Important'
Zaragoza are reported to have paid €11m for the 26-year-old playmaker, with the club calling him “the most important signing in their history” as they rebuild for the 2006/07 campaign. Aimar will link up with compatriot Andres D'Alessandro in midfield, and defenders Sergio Fernández and Juanfran under new Valencia coach Victor Fernández. Capped 43 times by his country, Aimar made three appearances at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

European trophy
Aimar came to prominence with CA River Plate in his homeland before joining Valencia in early 2001. He went on to win two Primera División titles as well as the UEFA Cup in 2004, but was considered surplus to requirements for next season by coach Quique Sanchez Flores. He made a total of 162 league appearances for the club, scoring 27 goals.
