Prolific scorer
A star of the 1940s and 50s, Szusza scored 18 goals in 24 internationals for his country but it was with his club Újpest that he really hit the heights, winning four titles. He registered 393 goals in 463 league games between 1940 and 1961. His overall scoring record still stands in Hungary, although he never finished as top scorer in a league campaign. After retiring from playing, he worked as a coach with Györi ETO FC and Újpest, and had spells in Poland and Spain with Górnik Zabrze, Real Betis Balompié and Club Atlético de Madrid. Újpest named their stadium after him in 2001 following extensive renovation work.
